Here is help for when you can’t seem to select a magnet line or other object to edit or move it

Are you having trouble selecting your magnet line or other object in order to drag it or edit its properties or even to delete it? Then this tip is for you!

PROBLEM SCENARIO:

Sometimes you have drawn an object such as a line a few days ago to act as a magnet line or maybe an arrow. Now time has passed and you want to edit that line or other object to make it less important or even to remove it but no matter what you do you can seem to open its properties menu or even to select it.

THE CAUSE:

The most frequent cause of this is usually the most recent Deviation Level Line has been drawn on top of your magnet line. The reason is, you drew the line say two days ago, but now today the deviation level and its shaded area just happens to match up with your line or other object. But the deviation level is newer, created after you drew your past line and as such is at a higher layer in the order of items on your chart. (Think of your chart like the old Disney animations, as a series of drawings all made on a clear sheet of plastic and all layered on top of each other. So today’s deviation layer being newer, created after the line or object you drew two days ago, thus that layer is above or on top of the past layer of your line. So every time you try to select the line you get the deviation level instead. )

HERE IS THE QUICK FIX:

So, thinking back to “The Cause” in the order of things you will need to put the layer containing the deviation levels lower than the layer containing your magnet lines.

1: With your left mouse button you will click and release the deviation level that’s on top of your magnet line.

2: Now press and hold down your Shift Key.

3: While still holding down the shift key you will roll the wheel on your mouse to scroll the layers. You want to move this layer lower in the order of things. (just roll the wheel, don’t press it down) The higher the layer number is, the lower in the stack of layers it goes.

As you start to roll the wheel you will see on the screen “Level 12 of 36” or something like that. As you scroll to make the number higher, you will be moving the object you selected lower down in the stack layers.

You just need to roll the wheel enough to make the layer a higher number than where you line is. Keep moving the number higher up until it’s a higher number than your line and then you will be able to select your line.

If you scroll all the way to the highest number then you will have moved the deviation level all the way down to the lowest item in the stack of layers. Thus all items on the chart will be higher in the stack of layers than the deviation levels.

However, you will most likely only want to lower the deviation level enough to get low enough that you will be able to select your line. Because depending on how low in the stack you send it, the “Deviation Levels” will appear over or below the bars or other items on your chart.
