Continuum Bars Explained

Continuum Bars:

The Continuum bars track time and space. They are like the Shadow bars but with the added feature of time. They allow you to add time so when trading binaries or spreads or when you want to have that time perspective in place, you can say **when the market moves x ticks on a trend or x ticks from open then reverse they close the bar and open a new one. A continuum bar will also force a new bar to start every X minutes, the X being whatever the time value is set to . ** So whichever comes first , trend ticks or reversal ticks, but also x minutes passed will cause the bar to close and a new one to start. Now you don’t have to have 1 bar that last an hour jacking with your 5-minute binary trades. I like this even when trading futures. A quick review, 8/10/5 continuum would form a new bar if it moved 8 ticks in the trend direction or 10 ticks in the reverse direction AND every 5 minutes. The five minutes is not set to when you opened a chart, the 5 minutes is set to coordinate on the hour, example 11:05, 11:10, 11:15 for a five minute settings.

When you open a chart, you will see the following choices for the Continuum bars in the data series.

If you wish to customize the Continuum bars, there are settings that can be adjusted in the Bar Style Indicator which must be added to the chart for adjusting both the Shadow and Continuum bars.

When opening up a new chart, if you have not already added the Bar Style Indicator, you will be prompted to add it. It is recommended you add this indicator to your default chart template so when you build charts, you wont have to remember to add it. (You can do this by starting a new chart, putting in the bar type you want to use, add ONLY the Bar Style Indicator and then save template as default.) Then the next time you open a new chart, it will be there automatically. The bar style setting indicator will let you change colors, tick widths and bar style (OHLC or candle) for the Shadow or Continuum bars. It also allows you to choose if you want the shadow automatic or manual. If you choose manual, you can adjust the size of the shadow. You can also turn the shadow off by setting the mode to automatic and size to 0.
